Hamilton Vardaman Reid, 84, best friend and beloved husband of Doris (Stryker) Reid for 53 years passed away surrounded by his loving family in Missouri City Texas on Saturday November 30, 2013. Besides his wife Doris, Hamilton is survived by his two daughters Susan Wilson of Wellington Kansas, Cynthia Bannon of Galveston Texas and his son Stephen Reid of Mansfield Texas. He is also survived by his two grandsons Michael May currently serving in the United States Air Force, Phillip Bannon of Houston Texas, and his beloved sister Rachel Reid Avery of Chapel Hill North Carolina.

After serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, Hamilton had a long and distinguished business career. After receiving his Masters degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota in 1954 he went on to be the Assistant Director of Hermann Hospital in Houston Texas from 1955-1960, Executive Director of Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City from 1960 -1977, President of Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans from 1977-1986 and the Baptist Hospital Foundation from 1986-1987. He also served as the President of the Missouri Hospital Association, the secretary-treasurer of the Louisiana Hospital Association and on the American College of Hospital Administrators Council of Regents.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care that “Ham” received over the last two years at Autumn Leaves Memory Care in Missouri City Texas. The kindness of these caretakers made these final days happier for him and his family.  A private memorial service will be held next spring for Hamilton followed by a spreading of his ashes along the beach in Florida. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York NY, 10001.
